The 2-hour tour is ideal for those seeking speed and excitement, while the 3-hour tour offers a more relaxed experience, giving you time to take in the scenery and enjoy the surroundings.

Cycling

Geilo offers a wide range of cycling opportunities. One of Norway’s most famous and scenic cycling routes, Rallarvegen, is located nearby. The trail is 80 kilometres long and runs from Haugastøl to Flåm. You can also start your journey in Geilo for an even longer adventure.

The loop around Ustedalsfjorden is a great area for a family-friendly bike ride. For those looking for more action, the bike park below Vestlia Resort is a fun place to test skills on pump tracks and jumps, and to enjoy a social riding environment.

Hiking

Geilo is known for it’s its endless hiking opportunities. Whether you prefer hiking, trail running, skiing, snowshoeing, or summit trips, there are fantastic options for every season. Here, we highlight some of our favourite hikes.

The national parks of Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda are just a short distance from Geilo and offer countless hiking opportunities. One of our favourites is the Prestholtrunden trail, which takes you up a stone staircase of 2,339 steps to Hallingskarvet before continuing into the national park. The staircase was built by Sherpas and makes the ascent both accessible and enjoyable. The hike is approximately 6.5 kilometres long.

The Ustedalsfjorden loop is a family-friendly walk suitable for both children and strollers. Along the route, you will pass the historic wooden bridge Tuftebrui and Fekjo, an ancient burial site dating back to the Viking Age. The full loop around the fjord is approximately 12 kilometres long, but you can also choose the shorter Veslerunden route, which is around 5 kilometres.

For a more impressive hike, head to Hivjufossen, one of Norway's most famous waterfalls. With a total height of 250 metres, the waterfall consists of two main cascades and several smaller rapids. The hike to the viewpoint is approximately 3 kilometres long.

Enjoy the mountains from horseback

What's better than exploring the beautiful mountain landscape on horseback? Geilo Hestesenter offers a half-day ride to Kikuttoppen, where you can enjoy spectacular views of Geilo and Hallingskarvet before continuing through the scenic terrain of Skurdalsåsen and back to the riding centre. Ride through varied landscapes and take in the stunning surroundings along the way.

Fishing

Geilo is home to countless mountain lakes and rivers, offering excellent fishing opportunities. The waters are rich in trout, and Arctic char can also be found in several locations. Spend a relaxing day by the water and see if you can catch your own dinner. The fishing season runs from the spring thaw until September 30th. Remember to purchase a fishing licence for everyone aged 16 and over.

Experience canyoning

Join us for an experience out of the ordinary! With canyoning, you can challenge yourself and push your limits. You will climb, abseil, slide, and swim through a canyon with a guide. A wetsuit, instruction and all other necessary equipment are provided, so all you have to do is throw yourself into this wild adventure. Dagali Fjellpark offers canyoning at its very best.

Mushroom and berry picking

One of the best things about autumn is the abundance of delicious ingredients waiting to be discovered in the forest. Put on your hiking boots, grab a basket, and head out into nature. See what berries and mushrooms you can find, but remember to only pick species you can identify with confidence. Back at the cabin, you can turn your harvest into blueberry muffins, pancakes with homemade jam, or a delicious mushroom stew.
