Family time in Geilo Summer Park

Geilo Summer Park is packed with fun activities for all ages. Take the chairlift to the top of the mountain and enjoy an exciting ride down on one of the park’s mountain bike trails, with routes suitable for different skill levels. You can also challenge yourself in the Høyt & Lavt climbing park. Or, for an extra adrenaline rush, soar down Vestlia on the 1,100-metre zipline. The park also features trampolines and the 15-metre-high Skarvetårnet climbing tower, offering 13 different climbing routes.

Hop on your bike

Geilo is a cycling paradise! The fun extends far beyond the bike park. One of the area’s most popular summer activities is cycling the Rallarvegen, widely regarded as Norway’s most beautiful and famous cycling route. The trail stretches 80 kilometres from Haugastøl to Flåm, but you can also start in Geilo for an even longer adventure.

The area around Ustedalsfjorden is perfect for a family bike ride. For those looking for a bit more action, the bike park below Vestlia Resort offers a fun place to practise skills, try out different pump tracks, and tackle a variety of jumps.

Relax at the spa

Take a break and unwind at one of Geilo’s wellness facilities. Treat yourself to a relaxing spa experience at Vestlia Resort or Dr. Holms, where you can enjoy soothing treatments and unwind in the pool, hot tub, or sauna.

Canoeing on the Veslefjord and Ustedalsfjord

Explore Veslefjorden and Ustedalsfjorden by canoe. Hol Turlag has four canoes available for rent, and Geilo Aktiv also offers rentals. Canoes can be rented on a daily basis and include paddles and life jackets. A great experience to share with family, close friends, or a partner.

Explore the hiking opportunities

Geilo is known for it’s its endless hiking opportunities. Whether you prefer hiking, trail running, skiing, snowshoeing, or summit trips, there are fantastic options for every season. Here, we highlight some of our favourite hikes.

The national parks of Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda are just a short distance from Geilo and offer countless hiking opportunities. One of our favourites is the Prestholtrunden trail, which takes you up a stone staircase of 2,339 steps to Hallingskarvet before continuing into the national park. The staircase was built by Sherpas and makes the ascent both accessible and enjoyable. The hike is approximately 6.5 kilometres long.

The Ustedalsfjorden loop is a family-friendly walk suitable for both children and strollers. Along the route, you will pass the historic wooden bridge Tuftebrui and Fekjo, an ancient burial site dating back to the Viking Age. The full loop around the fjord is approximately 12 kilometres long, but you can also choose the shorter Veslerunden route, which is around 5 kilometres.

For a more impressive hike, head to Hivjufossen, one of Norway's most famous waterfalls. With a total height of 250 metres, the waterfall consists of two main cascades and several smaller rapids. The hike to the viewpoint is approximately 3 kilometres long.

Visit Geilojordet

Geilojordet is a farm featuring historic buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is especially pleasant and idyllic to stroll around the farm in summer. You can enter some of the buildings or enjoy something at the outdoor café, which serves traditional dishes such as sour cream porridge. There is also a playground on the farm, making it a perfect place for children.

Rafting in one of Europe's best rafting rivers

Ready for a wild experience? Dagali is home to one of Europe's best rafting rivers. Choose from calm, family-friendly trips or indulge in one of the extreme tours. Serious Fun, Dagali Fjellpark and Dagali Opplevelser all offer high-quality, safe rafting experiences.

Taste award-winning cheeses

Hol Ysteri and Prestholt Goat Cheese are located at 1,242 metres above sea level, making them among the highest situated farms in Norway. Located at the foot of Hallingskarvet, they have produced traditional brown goat cheese since 1990. Today, they also produce white goat cheese, as well as goat meat and cured sausages. Their cheeses have received several awards at the World Cheese Awards, and their cheese “1242” won the Norwegian Cheese Championship in 2021.

The adventure pool at Vestlia Resort offers 750 square metres of water fun. It features a 20-metre swimming pool, an activity pool, a whirlpool, a children’s pool, and an 82-metre-long water slide. The whole family can enjoy hours of fun here.

There is also a football golf course located right next to the disc golf course. Book your round at the reception at Vestlia Resort. Love football and golf? Test your skills on the course and see how few kicks it takes to complete the course.

Visit Vøringsfossen

One of the most famous waterfalls in the country is just over an hour's drive from Geilo. It's the perfect destination for a short day trip. Vøringsfossen plunges 182 metres down from the Hardangervidda plateau and ends in Måbødalen. The place is designed as a tourist destination and you get a good view of the majestic waterfall.
